Meets AP Science Practices 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7
- Addresses Big Idea 4
- Materials provided for 30 students working in pairs
- Investigation includes updated literature aligned with new AP Chemistry curriculum standards
In this lab, chemical kinetics will be investigated as students explore how various conditions involved in a chemical reaction will affect its rate. Students will begin their investigation by studying the effect of the concentration of the acid on the reaction rate and will then consider other variables that may have an effect. By conducting studies in which these variables are altered, students will ultimately be able to determine the effect that each variable has on reaction rates. Includes calcium carbonate (limestone chips), and hydrochloric acid. requires a thermometer and stop watch, available separately.
