Study Structure and Motility of a Variety of Common Protists
Convenient, all-inclusive kit contains everything you need to culture and examine different protists to discover their unique attributes. Comes with a specimen culture, culture materials, Form and Structure sheets, and instructions for 30 students.
These microbes are members of the cellular slime mold group, and are commonly found in certain types of soil, dung, and other high-bacteria habitats. A variety of experiments can be conducted with Dictyostelium, including observing its life history and investigating differentiation and taxis responses. It is also interesting to observe Dictyostelium feeding on bacteria, which are included in this kit. Additional suggested experiments include studies of migrating pseudoplasmodia and differentiation. Cultures: Dictyostelium discoideum, Enterobacter aerogenes, or Escherichia coli (food).
