This media can be used to determine if a microorganism is capable of hydrolyzing starch as a source of energy for growth.
- Sterile, pre-prepared media; just inoculate and incubate.
- When used with an iodine solution, works as a test for alpha-amylase.
After the organism is plated onto the starch agar plate, an organism tests positive for alpha-amylase when, in the presence of an iodine solution, a blue-black color forms in the medium.
Each bottle pours approximately 10 Petri dishes. Simply melt in a microwave oven, water bath or autoclave. Once cool enough to handle, pour into sterile Petri dish plates
