One of the two different genera of termites available at Ward's, Zootermopsis are known as dampwood termites. They are commonly located in the Pacific northwest and southern British Columbia where they make their homes in rotting logs and other dark, moist wooden areas. They have a symbiotic relationship with a flagellate protozoa in their gut that helps them digest the cellulose in the wood.
