Your students are forensics professionals analyzing DNA collected at a crime scene.
- Mock crime scene scenario designed to provide a fun and engaging learning experience
- Procedures contain questions allowing better assessment for understanding
- Easy to follow protocols with setup and step-by-step guidance
- Allows real life application of common scientific techniques
- No human body fluids are handled in these experiments
A DNA sample of unknown origin was collected at a crime scene. Your student-investigators have obtained 3 different DNA samples from their suspects and now must identify the criminal.
Kit I: Allows students to perform a restriction digest of four DNA samples and compare their sizes via Agarose Gel Electrophoresis.
Kit II: Allows students to amplify four DNA samples via Polymerase Chane Reaction (PCR) and observe visible bands via Agarose Gel Electrophoresis. Includes Master mix (including primers and enzyme) and DNA ladder.
The kit includes four samples of DNA (plasmids). Three representing suspects, and a fourth, "unknown" sample recovered from a crime scene. After completing the experiment, students will not only solve the crime, but also cement their understanding of the genetic concepts associated with these two experiments.
