Perform Monohybrid Crosses with Vertebrates

Your students have just discovered a small population of beautiful long-finned gold zebra fish. But in order to keep the trait alive, they must first determine the genotype of these fish. The first thing your students must do is determine if the long-finned gold trait is dominant or recessive. To do this, they will cross a long-fin gold with a wildtype to determine the genotype of both strains. Then, they will raise the F1 generation until they become mature (this will take approximately three months) and cross the F1 generation to observe the F2 generation. In the process, students will also learn about the photoperiodic breeding of organisms. The kit comes with everything you need to breed enough embryos for all of your classes, teacher’s guide, and student copymaster. A stereomicroscope, required, is available separately. Note: Coupon included for perishable materials. Redeem by mail, fax, phone, or e-mail.
