Care, Handling and Safety Data Sheet Information
Fixing and Holding Solutions The preservation of all specimens involves the chemical alterations of the tissue proteins that inhibit bacterial and fungal growth that ultimately leads to decomposition. Fixation is a process in which a chemical fixative reduces tissues to an incorruptible state. After fixation, specimens are rinsed in water and placed in a holding solution. Our preserving methods provide safe, worry-free handling of each specimen.
Care and Handling of Preserved Specimens Handling
- There is no need to refrigerate your specimen. Store your preserved specimens in a cool area out of direct sunlight.
- When opening and handling preserved materials, be sure to use proper protective equipment. This includes gloves, protective eyewear, and an apron or lab coat.
Storage
- To prevent the specimen from drying, return it to the original bag (fold down and secure) or the original shipping pail (immersed in solution).
- Use Preserved Specimen Conditioning Fluid, (product 39-1697) or 70% alcohol as a dip or spray to prevent or kill any mold that may develop on your specimen.
